Review:

"Systemic school improvement in literacy education begins with the principal. What Principals Need to Know About Teaching and Learning Reading is a superb resource for guiding principals in making reading instruction more effective. It presents state-of-the-art information in a very readable manner. This volume should be on every principal's bookshelf."

--Timothy Rasinski, Professor, Kent State University, Ohio

"A timely and highly accessible book a must-read for anyone responsible for the administration and supervision of reading programs or involved in the evaluation of those who teach reading. Grounded in research, yet highly practical, this book is an excellent resource for use with the Common Core State Standards."

--Dorothy S. Strickland, Samuel DeWitt Proctor Professor of Education, Emerita, Distinguished Research Fellow, National Institute for Early Education Research, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

"In this concise guidebook, the authors provide principals with the information they need to enhance reading instruction in their schools. They offer a plain-language interpretation of what the research says about effective reading instruction and effective teachers of reading and develop a powerful plan for enhancing the reading proficiencies of all students--especially struggling readers. This small book will lead to large improvements in reading outcomes."

--Richard L. Allington, Professor of Literacy Studies, University of Tennessee
